This is another Project Linus blanket made with donated yarn. I used a free pattern from Red Heart yarn. Here's the link to the pattern: Knit Checkerboard Lapghan . This is knit in strips so it's a good pattern to work during hot weather or on the go.
Project Linus donates blankets to hospitals, law enforcement, fire departments etc. and the blankets are given to kids and teenagers as well as babies. These bright, strong colors are good for older children and boys really love them. I still have lots of the variegated and green yarn, so at least one more blanket - different pattern- will be made from this..... eventually. I really love working on projects that I wouldn't do for myself. It feels good to go outside your comfort zone.
The green yarn that was donated looks like it could be at least 30 years old!!! It was not as soft as the other yarn, but it sure reminded me when I was first married and in love with the washable, acrylic yarn that was on the shelves!

That yarn looks like some I got from my grandma Sedgwick when she passed except it was a lovely shade of peach ;o)
I made my parents a crocheted aran blanket out of it. It doesn't match any room in their house but it's always out & being used somewhere. Nice reminder of the history of crochet/yarn. She made wedding & baby blankets for every single one of us grandkids & great grandkids. Amazing lady!
